Shed Seven - Glasgow - Barrowland - Thursday December 12 2013
Following the excellent sets from both Pete MacLeod and Mark Morriss the crowd were fully charged up and more than ready for a mass sing-a-long by the time Shed Seven took the stage. From the outset, this was high energy stuff with the band and Rick Witter racing onto the stage to embrace the Barrowland reception.
The band opened with Getting Better and instantly RW had the crowd eating out of his hand. The Sheds were clearly up for this and there was no let-up in the intensity as favourites Speakeasy, High Hopes and She Left Me on Friday all appeared early in this livewire set. Rick and bassist Tom appeared really pumped for this gig with both appearing to balance on the stage edge perhaps in an attempt to close the gap between stage and audience. It is worth noting at this point this was not just high energy stuff and the band were sounding great with Witter’s vocals even better than I remembered.
It was clear both the band and audience were enjoying themselves during this gig and RW bridged the gap as he leapt from the stage and reached out into the audience with his microphone for some Barras vocals. One exuberant fan responded by offering the shirt on his back to Rick who accepted by wearing the ‘Armani’ shirt (briefly) to the delight of his band-mates.
The set-list included all the greatest hits with stand-outs for me being Where Have You Been Tonight, Disco Down and Standby. Unfortunately, I needed to leave just before the finale of Chasing Rainbows but discovered this footage on YouTube which I think typifies the atmosphere of the night:
